Welcome

The Right Place for You
Welcome guitarists of any age, any skill level, any gender, any musical persuasion—the Guitar School is the right place for you!
- Any age—I have taught students from seven to seventy
- Any skill level—the vast majority of new students have never touched a musical instrument in their lives—but many are intermediate and advanced players, right up to the professional level
- Any gender—ladies, the guitar has been a “guy” thing for way too long—Bonnie Raitt, Joan Jett, Meshell Ndegeocello, Jennifer Batten, and Sarah McLaughlin might have a few things to say about that
- Any musical persuasion—rock, blues, country, folk—you name it
The guitar has been opening doors for people into the world of music for more than a century, but since it's moved to the forefront of popular music over the last fifty years, it's become the instrument of choice for millions. More portable than a piano—capable of more than one note, unlike a violin or trumpet—way cooler than an accordion—you can't beat it.
The Basics
The basics of guitar are very easy. You need know almost nothing about music to learn to finger some chords and strum the strings. I remember as a young guitarist thinking I'd stumbled onto some exciting secret when I realized that thousands of terrific songs were just a few chords and some words to sing. You gotta love it-—music for the masses.
"All I got is a red guitar, three chords, and the truth." -- Bob Dylan, and many others.
And Beyond ...
But the Guitar School will always advocate the student learn to play as well as possible, for one reason above all others--it's the most fun. I will help you train your hands to make playing as easy and effortless as possible. I will explain the basics of music to you in language you can understand. I will motivate you, I will help you get the most from your practice time, and I will give you realistic assignments that take into consideration your skill level and your musical goals.
The sky's the limit!--let's get started.
